A high protein chocolate banana smoothie made with frozen bananas, natural peanut butter and cocoa powder. This smoothie is cold, creamy, and not too sweet, and perfect for a quick breakfast or snack.

Ingredients
- Frozen Banana. The sugar in the banana will add natural sweetness to your smoothie, as well as carbohydrates. Using the banana while frozen will help to thicken the smoothie, along with a handful of ice cubes.
- Egg Whites. For protein, I add pasteurized liquid egg whites (yes, I use them raw). If you’re not into this, you can replace the egg whites with any milk of your choice.
- Collagen Peptides or Protein Powder. Here you can use any protein supplement that you like. I usually don’t use protein powders, since they’re artificially flavored and sweetened. But I love using Vital Proteins collagen peptides. The unflavored powder is completely tasteless when added to a smoothie (or my morning coffee).
- Peanut Butter. My recommendation is a good natural peanut butter, such as Adam’s.
- Cocoa Powder. You can use any cocoa powder, but for the best flavor, I use my favorite one for baking, Cacao Barry Extra Brute Dutch processed cocoa powder.
- Vanilla. I like a hint of vanilla, so I used a pinch of ground vanilla bean. You can also just use a drop or two of vanilla extract.

Frequently Asked Questions
To freeze bananas, simply peel ripe bananas, wrap them individually in plastic wrap, then keep them in the freezer until needed.
For the collagen peptides, I use Vital Proteins. Collagen peptides are unflavored and unsweetened, so they don’t affect the taste of the smoothie.
You can also use any protein powder of your choice, but these are often artificially flavored and sweetened.
To make this without the egg whites, you can use any milk of your choice instead. However, the egg whites contain protein, so if you leave these out, your smoothie will contain less protein.
