What’s in my Gingerbread Christmas Cookie Box?
This is the fourth year in a row that I’ve styled a Christmas cookie box, and it’s become such a fun tradition that I look forward to every December. My theme for this year’s box is gingerbread, so there are plenty of gingerbread recipes included. Gingerbread is known for warm and cozy spices like cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, allspice and cardamom, sweetened with brown sugar and molasses.
But not everything in today’s box is dark and spicy, and I also added some decorated star and wreath sugar cookies and hazelnut shortbread, so there’s something for everyone.
Gingerbread Cookies
Gingerbread cutout cookies are a holiday classic. Mine are soft and chewy, not too spicy, and wonderful with buttercream or royal icing. I’ve also sandwiched them together with chocolate ganache, and a little heart cutout in the top cookie, which looks so pretty.
Soft Ginger Molasses Cookies
Another favorite Christmas cookie is soft ginger molasses cookies. You can eat them plain, sandwich them with coffee buttercream, frost them with lemon icing, add raisins, or even fill them with cheesecake.
Ginger Walnut Biscotti
I make biscotti every winter, and it’s such a nice cookie to have on hand for guests to enjoy with coffee. Ginger walnut biscotti is buttery and nutty, with just a hint of spicy ginger.
Gingerbread Shortbread Cookie Sticks
Sweet and spicy gingerbread shortbread cookie sticks, drizzled with tart lemon icing are perfect for serving with hot coffee or tea anytime during the winter holidays.
Gingerbread Pecan Caramel Thumbprint Cookies
Caramel thumbprint cookies, made with soft and chewy gingerbread spiced sugar cookies, rolled in crushed pecans and filled with sweet caramel. This holiday cookie is sweet and spicy, with a buttery, nutty crunch from the pecans, and a creamy caramel center.
Chocolate Chip Ginger Cookies
I took my favorite brown butter chocolate chip cookies and added some crystallized ginger for a hint of holiday spice. They’re as fantastic as they sound.
Toasted Hazelnut Cookies
Buttery toasted hazelnut Christmas cookies with a shortbread like texture, finished with melted dark chocolate and crunchy toasted hazelnuts. These beautiful cookies make a delicious addition to a Christmas cookie box!
Christmas Wreath Cookies
These Christmas wreath cookies are made from vanilla sugar cookie dough that’s colored green, coated in sparkling sugar and decorated with red chocolate candy bows.
Christmas Star Cookies
These Christmas star cookies start with a recipe for no spread, soft vanilla sugar cookies cut in star shapes, frosted with fluffy peppermint buttercream and sprinkled with sparkling sugar. Star sugar cookies are easy to decorate with piped buttercream stars, and they look so beautiful for the holidays!
Gingerbread House
And how could I not include a homemade gingerbread house in my gingerbread Christmas cookie box post? This comprehensive tutorial post will teach you everything you need to know about how to make a gingerbread house from scratch, starting with a strong, sturdy, construction quality gingerbread cookie recipe.
Next, you’ll see how I designed the templates for my own house, so you can make your own template. Then, I’ve provided step-by-step photos showing how I assembled my house. And lastly, you’ll see how I added all the finishing details like clear windowpanes and royal icing snow drifts.
